Full disclosure: I have plenty of veterans in my family, but I’ve come nowhere near serving in the military myself. From the stories they’ve told me, nothing that follows sounds particularly outlandish or false.

(I will also add that putting this post together and reading through the thread in which these stories originated gave me some much-needed laughs this weekend. I was cackling at pretty much every point of reading these.)
