In one of the most futuristic-sounding headlines to hit this year, a biotech company says it’s brought dire wolves back from the dead. Thanks to breakthroughs in gene editing and cloning, scientists at Colossal Biosciences have claimed to recreate living dire wolf pups more than 10,000 years after the species went extinct. While the science is impressive and the pups are adorable, not everyone’s sold on calling these “real” dire wolves just yet.
